“Do Not Call List” ScamsIdentity thieves have been reported to be taking advantage of the new "Do Not Call" registries in the states. This is the scam: Someone calls "you" claming to be a representative of the FTC of Maryland. The scam artist tries to persuade you to give out personal information such as your Social Security Number, credit card number, or calling number. They will tell you that this information is needed to verify your registry entry. This is not true. The FTC will not call you and solicit anyone to be placed on their national registry. Any such calls are a scam and their purpose is to get your personal information to take out credit cards in your name. This can damage your credit even if you are bale to persuade the credit card company that you have been a victim of a scam. This information is not needed to register you on the FTC National Do Not Call Registry.
