Install Adobe Acrobat Reader

Many sites offer documents in a format that requires Adobe Acrobat Reader, a special program to help you read files. On the web, links to Adobe Acrobat files are usually marked, either at the link or one the web page.  It may say something like " Acrobat Reader Required," or "PDF file." Acrobat Reader is a free program from www.adobe.com.  It is easier to find the Acrobat Reader download page by skipping the company's home page and going straight to an Acrobat Reader download link.  There is a main download page, but it still is easier to find what you need by going to a special page that lets you download different versions of Acrobat Reader.  There are versions in other languages, and version with added searching and accessibility features.  The English language version for Windows without searching and accessibility features is the fastest to download and run.

The file you download to install Acrobat Reader or your computer is very large (8.6 megabytes), so it will take a long time to download if you have a slow connection to the internet.  After you download the installation file, run it to install the (free) Acrobat Reader on your computer. After it is installed, you will be able to open and read Acrobat PDF files in your web browser, or on your own computer by running Reader.  After you install Acrobat Reader, you may have to restart your computer.

Adobe PDF files are often very large.  If you read them in your browser, it takes longer than if you download the PDF document from the web site and read it on your own computer.  Downloading the PDF document also makes it easier to print the document out, if you want.  When you see an Adobe PDF file on the web, left clicking the link to it will open it in your browser.  If you want to download it and save it on your own computer, right click once on the link.  From the menu that opens, pick the command to save the file.  Pick the location on your computer where you want to save the file.  Remember where you saved it so you can find it to read it in Acrobat Reader later.
