Locating Mediators, Arbitrators
and Other Dispute Resolution Professionals in Maryland
Mediators
Arbitrators, Large Group Dispute Resolution Facilitation, or Settlement Conference Facilitators

Mediators
Private mediators – You can look in the yellow pages or use this website’s searchable on-line Directory of mediators with a Maryland practice. The Directory includes a panel of practitioners willing to provide free services to low and moderate-income persons. Professionals listed in the Directory state that they meet certain training and experience levels. Details on the Directory and requirements to be listed.

Community Mediation Centers – Listing of programs that offer free or low cost mediation services at the neighborhood level. Programs rely upon trained volunteers.

Court Mediators Lists – Maryland Circuit Courts maintain lists of mediators who meet certain training and experience requirements.

  • If you do not have a current court case started on the dispute, you will find that many courts make these lists generally available to the public.
  • If you do have a court case, the court may order that you and the other side attend mediation (especially in custody and marital property cases). You may also ask a Judge to order mediation. True in practice? Shall we add a sample motion?

For court lists, contact your family court coordinator (if it is a family matter) or ask if the court has an ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution) Coordinator for all other matters. List of general contacts at the court.

In addition, you should be aware that the court may make its referrals to a panel that is part of the larger list of registered mediators. Qualifications for these referrals panels may be more stringent than those for the general list.

There are also some national organizations that maintain rosters of mediators and/or arbitrators.
