Special Education and Discipline

Questions you should review in a disciplinary situation when child is in a special education program or may be entitled to benefit of special education rules.

  1. Is your child in special education now? 

  2. Does your child have a disability?

  3. What is the disability?

  4. Do you suspect your child has a disability or is in need of special education services?

  5. Has your child ever been referred, screened or evaluated for a disability or special education needs?

  6. If yes, when was this done and by whom?

  7. Has an IEP meeting ever been held concerning your child?

  8. Has your child been suspended or expelled from school?

  9. How long is this current suspension?

  10. Has your child been suspended in the past? How long? How many times?

  11. For what reason did the school suspend or expel your child?

  12. Where is your child now? Home or alternative school

  13. If at home, is your child receiving any educational services there?

  14. What is the name of your child’s school?

  15. What grade is your child in currently?
