Allegany County

Maryland has a wide range of agencies that will provide help for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. Most provide free counseling. Some offer shelter and/or legal representation. Most services are free. Some are offered on a sliding scale. Some agencies also offer programs to help batterers. Some agencies serve the entire state and they will be listed as well.  Below is information on services available in Allegany County.

Service Area:
Will accept from other jurisdictions from where women are attempting to exit or escape.

Services: 

  • Counseling: Sexually molested teens, children from violent homes, children who have witnessed domestic violence, and group counseling. Adult group counseling - abuse intervention program for the batterers (men and women).
  • Batterer’s Program 
  • Shelter
  • Crisis Intervention (Emergency Shelter)
  • Rape Crisis Group
  • Group for parent of sexually molested children

Limitations:  No legal services


House of Ruth - No pets are allowed in the shelter but will work with Animal Society who will board.  No men over 16 years allowed.
