Free Legal Assistance Programs For Seniors in Maryland

This section includes low cost choices for people who are not eligible for free legal help in Maryland.  Most are Low cost Legal Help in Maryland.  However, these are not recommendations by the editors of the People’s Law Library. No group has paid to be listed, nor are these the only groups to which you might turn for help.

  • Free or low cost initial consultation - Many individual attorneys offer free or low cost initial consultations. You can call to find out if an attorney recommended by a friend offers this. 

  • Reduced fee panel - You many also qualify for help from an attorney who is part of a special bar association referral program.

  • Low Cost Help for Seniors who need wills or simple estate questions.

  • The Legal Advice Line, LLP  (866-513-0568) is a Maryland-based for-profit law firm that provides legal advice, information and referral over the telephone.  If it seems that you need more than just a telephone consultation, the Legal Advice Line will refer you to the local bar association for an attorney.  For a $35 flat rate you are entitled to an initial consultation with an attorney for as long as you need.  The Legal Advice Line is willing to assist those who wish to represent themselves.

  • Civil Justice Inc. (410-706-0174; 1-866-48CIVIL) is a Maryland non-profit corporation that maintains the Civil Justice Network, a free lawyer referral service.  Clients are referred to Maryland solo and small firm attorneys who provide legal services at reduced costs in a broad range of practice areas. 
  • Legal Aid referral for special types of cases - In addition, some legal and providers offer lawyer referral in addition to legal services, based on the case type.  For example, CASA of Maryland Legal Services offers referral for workers compensation cases.  Contact a legal services provider who specializes in the type of case you have.
