Internet—Based
Investigation Services This is a short list of
Internet based investigation services. These
are pay services which fill the gap between the free “do it yourself” web
pages and going out and hiring a private investigator.
Since these Internet searches range in price from $20 up to $100, they
should be used after an unsuccessful free
Internet search, and before you hire a private investigator.
The services listed here access information that would be difficult or
expensive for ordinary people to use. Please
note that these are only several of the available Internet search options and
The Peoples Law Library does not support, endorse, or recommend in anyway the
services listed on this page.
Computrace
is a people finding service that uses the
person’s name and either a Social Security Number, past address, date of
birth, or even a last city of residence. In
addition to locating individuals, you can locate spouses and relatives as well
as locating assets, liens, judgments and other information. Computrace
charges $45.00
to $59.50 per
search. Lostpeople.com
is another tracking service that charges $39.99 for a basic
search and $49.99 for an advanced search. Besides just locating people, Lostpeople.com also can do a
background check on people. The
cost for background checks can be as much as $300.00. They
can search for an individual by name, social security number, address, and date
of birth. The more information you
have the more probable the chances are of success. PublicData.com
This web site is not a traditional people searching site, rather it contains
searches for records that many of the other sites do not.
PublicData.com can search for
a range of information including, vehicle identification numbers, driving
records, license plate numbers, criminal records, sex offenders, and others. Fees on this site are as low as $10 for a month of searches. USSEARCH
is
an on-line service provider that charges fees to find someone. The amount of the
fees depends on what information you want about the person - the more
information, the higher the fees. The fees are, typically, $10 - $40. The
company can search for such information as: "is the person I’m looking
for dead?” "Has she married and changed her name?” "What have been
his/her previous addresses?"
The more information you have the better, for example, you know the person’s middle name. You can also get USSEARCH services by calling 800-733-2243. Last update 07/10/07 (MLAN/AC/KF) Source: Maryland Legal Assistance Network (MLAN) |
