Looking for the Law?

Because there is no one "law", there is no one place to find it. In order to understand the "law," you must read several sources of the law together. For an overview, see the "Basics of finding the law".

First Look for the topic here on the Peoples Law Library website.  We provide practical and “how to” information as well as links to the statutes, regulations, policy material and case law for each topic area.

Second - You should also look for Research Guides by topic, such as divorce.

Third– Don't forget to read the tips on working with law librarians when doing your own legal research.

Remember that (1) each of these steps will only give you part of the answer and (2) the law changes over time.  Even a few months or a few weeks can be enough time for the law to change.
