Maryland Children's Medical Services (CMS) Summary 

Name   Maryland Children's Medical Services (CMS)
Non-Financial Eligibility Conditions   The Children's Medical Services Program assists families in planning and obtaining specialty medical and rehabilitative care for children who have or are at risk for chronic illnesses or disabling conditions which interfere with normal growth and development. To qualify for services, applicants must:
  • Be a Maryland resident younger than 22 years of age, and
  • Demonstrate a chronic medical condition, such as, but not limited to: cerebral palsy, oral-facial anomalies, orthopedic problems, speech/language problems, spina bifida, heart disease or defects, hearing impairment, cystic fibrosis, seizure disorders, leukemia and other childhood cancers.

Benefit   Covered services include hospitalization, outpatient specialty services, rehabilitative and habilitative services, durable medical equipment, disposable medical supplies, medications, nutritional supplements, and eligible dental services.

Appeals

  You may request an informal conference if you disagree with the decision, and you may request a formal hearing.  The time limits and how to appeal will be on the application form and on any adverse notices you get.
