Senior Prescription Drug Assistance Program Summary (SPDAP)

Name   Senior Prescription Drug Assistance Program (SPDAP)
Non-Financial Eligibility Conditions   Individuals must be:
  • a resident of Maryland for at least 6 months,
  • eligible for Medicare,
  • enrolled in a Medicare approved Medicare Rx or Medicare Advantage prescription drug plan.
Income Eligibility Conditions   Have household income below 300 percent of the Federal Poverty Standards and those not eligible for the Full Federal Extra Help as determined by the Social Security Administration:

Individuals: $30,630 per year, or $2,552.50 per month

Couples: $41,070 per year, or $3,422.50 per month

Effective for year 2007.

Asset Eligibility Conditions   There are no asset limitations for this program.
Benefit   Helps lower the cost of outpatient prescription drugs for Maryland residents.  

SPDAP will pay up to $25 per month for Medicare RX Prescription drug plan premium.

Apply At   To apply for the Senior Prescription Drug Assistance Program, contact at 800-551-5995. You can also download an application at http://www.marylandspdap.com/v2_0a/marylandspdap/SelectanRxPlan/HowToApply/tabid/84/Default.aspx.  Once you fill out the form, you mail it to:

Appeals

  To appeal a decision denying enrollment in the program, a written request for reconsideration must be made to the Grievance Committee within 90 days of receiving the Denial Letter. All written requests must state the specific reasons why the decision should be reversed, and should include a copy of the Denial Letter.  The Grievance Committee has 14 days from receipt of a letter to make a decision and 7 days to send the decision.
