Veterans' Compensation

Name   Veteran's Compensation
Non-Financial Eligibility Conditions   You must be at least 10% disabled from a condition which is "service connected," and you may not have received a dishonorable discharge.

There is no specific duration of service required for you to be eligible for this Benefit

Income Eligibility Conditions   None
Asset Eligibility Conditions   None
Benefit   The amount is based on the per cent disability.  For a veteran with no dependents, it ranges from $115/month for a 10% disability to $2,471/month for a 100% disability (as of December 1, 2006).  For 30% disability and higher, the amount increases if you have dependents.

Do these numbers change?

Apply At   You can apply by filling out VA Form 21-526, Veterans Application for Compensation or Pension. If you have any of the following material, attach it to your application:
  • Dependency records (marriage and children's birth certificates)
  • Medical evidence (doctor and hospital reports)

You can also apply on the internet at the Department of Veterans Affairs Online Application Website (VONAPP).   Instructions can be found here.
