Finding An Immigration Lawyer

Note: The Board of Immigration Appeals Board determines which lawyers and organizations are allowed to represent people before the BCIS, the immigration courts, and the Board.

The Department of Justice's website has a list of free legal assistance providers in all states. There are nine organizations in Maryland that provide free legal help in immigration matters.  There are many websites where you can search for lawyers who would represent you in immigration matters for a fee.

Fee Based Legal to Help For immigration Issues

We provide links to websites where you can look for an immigration lawyer, but we are not associated with any immigration lawyers, nor do we endorse any lawyer you locate through these web links.

  • American Immigration Lawyers Association - The AILA is a bar association with over 7,500 attorneys and law professors who practice and teach immigration law.  This web site refers visitors to member attorneys of the association.  The lawyers they refer to for the most part are attorneys who will charge for their services. You can search for a lawyer on their web site, also.

  • Immigration Lawyers on the Web is a website by an immigration law publisher. Among their products and services they offer a "yellow pages" for the immigration field with almost 800 attorneys listed.  The lawyers they refer to for the most part are attorneys who will charge for their services.

  • Lawyers.com, by the publisher Martindale Hubble, lets you search for a lawyer by area of practice in your city or your state. Lawyers.com also has articles on common questions such as what immigration law is, how a person can become a U.S. citizen, and the types of visas.

  • You also can search for an immigration lawyer and read articles on immigration and naturalization at FindLaw.com, which is published by the legal publisher West Group.
