Type of Service Refers cases to participating volunteer lawyers in non-criminal, non-fee generating civil law matters. We do not provide advice by phone. The Service does not guarantee it can provide a lawyer, nor are lawyers in the office. Obtaining a lawyer through the Service may take more than one month. Domestic cases may take several months to place. MVLS also conducts pro se clinics for bankruptcy. Family Law Assistance Project conducts pro se divorce classes in Baltimore County for individuals who have been separated at least ten months, the case is uncontested and there is no property. The Family Law Reduced Fee Program serves low-income residents of Calvert, Caroline, Carroll, Cecil, Charles, Frederick, Howard, St. Mary's, Somerset, Washington, Wicomico and Worchester counties and handles separation agreements, post decree modifications, adoptions, annulment, and contested custody. There is a $25 application fee and a $350 retainer payable to the lawyer when the initial appointment is made.
