Filing a Consumer Complaint with the Attorney General 

If you are dissatisfied with the product or service provided by a Maryland business and would like to file a complaint, contact the Office of the Consumer Protection Division at:

3 Ways to Get a Consumer Complaint Form 

  1. Call to request a complaint form from one of the Consumer Protection Branch offices.
  2. Pick one up at one of the twenty state Comptroller taxpayer service offices.
  3. Download and print a complaint form online.  You can fill it in by hand.  You can find online forms for complaints about:

What Happens to Your Complaint at the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) 

After receiving your complaint, the OAG will check to make sure your problem is the type that they can handle. 

  • You can check the status of your complaint by calling the hotline between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. at 410-528-8662. 
  • If your complaint falls within the OAG’s authority, you can request that a volunteer mediator work with you and the business in order to negotiate a mutually agreed upon resolution to your problem. 
  • If your complaint is not appropriate for the OAG, your complaint will be automatically transferred to another state or federal agency (if there is one that is appropriate) for you.

If the OAG Cannot Resolve the Problem

If you are unable to resolve the problem through the mediation services provided by the OAG, you can take one of the following steps:

  1. Try your local Alternative Dispute Resolution office
  2. Contact your local Better Business Bureau office
  3. Obtain Legal Assistance 
  4. File a claim in a Maryland Court
