Tax Help

Eligibility For Free Tax Help

Get Free Help Filing Your Taxes

Sponsored by the Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service and the Tax Section of the Maryland State Bar Association.

If you worked full or part time in 2007, you may be entitled to money back -- EVEN if you don't owe any taxes.

You may qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EIC).  If so, you'll owe less in taxes and you may even get money back.  Even if you don't owe taxes you can get the EIC.  However, you MUST file a tax return.

If you call your taxes could be prepared by experienced lawyers and accountants who will also tell you if you qualify for the EIC.

MVLS has two different tax programs that you MAY qualify for to receive free assistance with your taxes.  One program assists those who need help with tax preparation for the current year.  The other program can help you if you have need to file taxes for a previous year or have difficulties with the IRS

2007 Taxes:
You MAY be eligible if you worked full OR part time in 2007 AND:

If your Income is no more than:

  • $37,783 single with two or more qualifying children
  • $39,783 married filing jointly with two or more qualifying children
  • $33,241 with one qualifying child
  • $35,241 married filing jointly with one qualifying child
  • $12,590 with no qualifying children
  • $14,590 married filing jointly with no qualifying children

The Tax clinic will operate January 27 to March 3.

Days And Hours:

Tuesday -      12:00pm-5:00pm
Wednesday - 10:00am to 6:00pm
Thursday -     12:00pm to 4:00pm

Saturday -      9:00am to 2:00pm

Back Taxes and Tax Problems
Have you failed to receive your tax refund in the last three years?

Have you received any letters from the IRS?
Have you received any bills from the IRS?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you might have an IRS tax problem and MVLS' Low Income Taxpayer Clinic might be able to help.  

The Low Income Taxpayer Clinic provides free legal services to low income individuals who need to file back tax returns or who have IRS tax problems.  Individuals can call Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1 p.m.-3p.m. and speak with one our intake paralegals who will determine if you are eligible for our services.   

The income guidelines for this program are as follows:
