The People's Law Library received the Herbert S. Garten Public Citizen Award from the Maryland Legal Services Corporation at its annual awards reception. F. Vernon Boozer, Chairman of the MLSC Board, Maryland Chief Judge
Robert M. Bell and members of the MLSC Board presented the award December 5, 2011 at the Radisson Plaza Lord Baltimore Hotel. The award, presented to State Law Library Director Steve Anderson, honors an entity or organization not regularly engaged in the delivery of legal services to low-income persons. The board of the Maryland Legal Services Corporation announced the award in October in advance of the reception. In addition to Mr. Anderson, Michael Craven, the Web Content Coordator for the People's Law Library, Richard Granat, a lawyer in private practice who helped develop the People's Law Library in the 1990s, and Herbert S. Garten, namesake of the award and chair of the Public Education Committee of the Maryland Access to Justice Commission, were in attendance.
